With disability and aging come a variety of challenges associated with safety and independence. Long-term care services and supports can make remaining at home, where you generally have the most independence, easier by providing a variety of care and support options including, in-home medical care, assistance with bathing and dressing, and help with household chores. Assistive technology and other services also are available to help modify your home to accomodate changing needs.
Some services may be covered in whole or part by private insurance or government aid; others are paid for out-of-pocket. The costs of care at home are usually lower than the costs of institutional care depending upon the mix of skilled, unskilled and informal (family) care required and available. In order to arrange these supports, you may act as your own contractor or go through an agent for a fee.
Throughout Connecticut, there are agencies and programs available to provide information, assessment, referral and management of your long-term care needs.
